Personal Mantra: “To whom much is given, much is expected.”

Featured Team Member

Bryan Clay
Decathlete

What is your motivation?
“I want people to know who Bryan Clay really is. I don’t want to be remembered for simply being an athlete. I want them to remember me for being a father and a husband and being passionate about those things. And that I did my best to make a difference in the world and leave a legacy that’s worthy for people to talk about. I want to win another medal, of course, but in the bigger picture, I want people to remember me for who I really was, and not just as a track athlete.”

What is your personal mantra?
“When I signed my college letter of intent, my coach sat me down and said, ‘To whom much is given, much is expected. I want you to remember that. And I also want you to understand and remember that just because there’s opportunity, that doesn’t equal obligation.’ And those are the two things in my professional career that I’ve really held on to. And they’ve really helped guide me during some really difficult times.”

Who are your biggest supporters and what does their support mean to you?
“People always ask what my secret is, and I always tell them it’s realizing that I didn’t get to where I am on my own. I’ve got an amazing support system around me. I’ve got people who believe in me, sometimes more than I believe in myself. When you have people like that around you, it’s really hard to fail. And that’s what I have. I tell people this is my ohana, my family.”
